Nutrition

We recommend all dogs eat foods that meet the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) guidelines. Diets manufactured by Purina, Hills, and Royal Canin meet these guidelines. These diets are formulated by a veterinary nutritionist. Many smaller or boutique dog food companies do not meet these guidelines. They have evidence based research that has determined that some of the boutique, exotic, or grain-free diets are associated with cardiomyopathy in dogs.
